Today, something pretty damn cool happened.
I handed out the first copy of Living the Scene.
After all the writing, rewriting, editing, proofreading, formatting, printing, numbering, organizing and packing, I have finally reached the last stage of this ridiculous little journey:
Distribution.
The first copy went to my boss, Mike.
I signed it, handed it to him and thanked him for everything over the past 10 years. Mike shook my hand, told me he was proud of me and was genuinely excited to finally have the book.
And for a second, the whole thing felt a little surreal.
Because Living the Scene has existed in so many different forms over the last year. It was an idea. Then it was a document. Then hundreds of pages on a screen. Then proofs covered in corrections. Then stacks of printed books. Then 80 individually numbered copies sitting in boxes waiting for their people.
Today, one of them left.
That’s a very different feeling.
There is something incredibly satisfying about reaching the point where there is nothing left to write, nothing left to edit and nothing left to print.
Now I just get to hand people the thing I made.
Three copies are officially where they belong—mine, Brandon’s and now Mike’s.
77 to go.
And over the next month, more and more of these books are going to leave those boxes and find their way into the hands of the people who were part of this story, supported it, preordered it or simply wanted to read it.
Then on October 3rd, at Cherry Street Station, a whole bunch more of them finally go home.
After spending so much time creating Living the Scene, I think this might be one of the coolest parts of the entire process.
The book is finished.
The books are printed.
And now Living the Scene is officially making its way out into the world.
